Who Services My Solar System Now? Lookup for 26 Installers

For all 26 failed installers in the table below the rule is the same: if you lease, the company that owns the system repairs it, which is SunStrong Management for Sunnova and legacy SunPower and Renewbrook for most PosiGen leases.

If you own it, no successor services it; you claim parts from the manufacturer and hire a contractor for labor.

Definition

Who services your solar system after the installer closes depends on how you paid: a leased or PPA system is repaired by the company that owns it, and a cash or loan system is repaired by whoever you hire, with equipment warranties claimed from the manufacturer.

System down, an inverter error, or the app showing nothing? Call the solar repair line and describe what you see.

Who repairs a leased solar system

The lessor does. A lease or power purchase agreement means the financing company owns the panels on your roof and is contractually responsible for keeping them producing. When an installer fails, those contracts are sold as a portfolio and the buyer takes on the service obligation. Sunnova and legacy SunPower leases are with SunStrong Management. Most PosiGen leases are with Renewbrook Energy, serviced by Omnidian, and the rest with SunStrong. Freedom Forever leases funded by Sunrun are Sunrun's responsibility. Keep paying, report problems in writing, and keep the lease and every notice.

Who repairs a solar system I bought or financed

Nobody, unless you hire them. No successor to any company on the tracker has taken on service for cash and loan customers. SunStrong says plainly that it does not provide maintenance or repair for SunPower cash or loan systems. That leaves three routes: the equipment manufacturer for warranty parts, a service company that takes over other installers' systems for labor, or a manufacturer service plan such as Enphase Care ($399 a year) or SolarEdge's $99 health check. Your loan is a separate contract with the lender and continues regardless.

That is what the repair line is for. Call with the inverter brand and the installer's name.

What a contractor needs to know before taking the job

Four things decide whether a service company will take an orphaned system: who installed it, whether it is owned or leased, the inverter brand, and what the monitoring app shows. Leased systems go back to the lessor. Owned systems with Enphase or SolarEdge equipment are the easiest to take over, because both manufacturers let a new installer claim ownership of the monitoring site. The who to call guide walks through the same four questions.

Sunrun and Tesla customer service: companies still in business

If Sunrun or Tesla installed your system, the company still exists and services its own systems, so start there rather than with a contractor.

Questions people ask

Who do I call to fix my solar panels if my installer went out of business?

If you lease, call the lessor on your statement. If you own the system, call the equipment manufacturer for warranty parts and hire a service company that takes over other installers' systems for the labor.

Can I get my solar panels serviced if my installer went out of business?

Yes. Panels and inverters are serviced by any licensed solar or electrical contractor. Manufacturers such as Enphase, SolarEdge and Tesla replace failed parts under warranty regardless of installer status.

Does SunStrong service SunPower systems?

Only leases and PPAs. SunStrong states it does not provide maintenance or repair for SunPower cash or loan customers and publishes an unendorsed third-party directory instead.

Who services Sunnova systems now?

SunStrong Management, at 866-786-6682 or SunStrong's account portal (sunstrongmanagement.com/homeowners/account), for accounts that transferred. Cash systems that SunStrong did not take have no servicer and need an independent contractor.

Is my solar loan cancelled if the installer went bankrupt?

No. The loan is a separate contract with the lender and survives the installer's bankruptcy. Document a non-working system in writing to the lender and ask about hardship options.

What is the Sunrun customer service number?

(855) 478-6786, Monday to Friday 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pacific, according to Sunrun's contact page.

How do I contact Tesla solar customer service?

Through the Tesla app (Support on the energy system screen) or by phone at (877) 798-3752, option 4 then option 2, per Tesla's contact page.

Who services solar panels when the installer is gone?

The lessor's servicer for leased systems, the manufacturer for equipment warranty parts, and an independent licensed contractor for labor on owned systems.

Do I still have to pay my solar loan if the installer went out of business?

Yes. The loan is a separate contract with the lender (GoodLeap, Mosaic, Sunlight, a credit union) and continues regardless of the installer. If the system was never finished or never worked, dispute it with the lender in writing and file a complaint with your state attorney general; the state pages list the office.
