Three questions decide who to call
- Is anyone in danger? Sparks, smoke, a burning smell, a gas smell or a sagging wet ceiling come first: get people clear, call 911 or the utility, then a contractor.
- Which trade owns the problem? Water coming in from above is a roofer's job; the wet drywall and drying after it is a water damage company's. A dead circuit is an electrician's. The table below matches each problem to its line.
- Is insurance paying? Call your insurer before you sign anything. The roof line is for work you pay for yourself, and no company should take over your claim.
Roof, electrical or water damage? Call the line for the job; each goes to a local company that takes that work.

Questions people ask
Who do I call for a roof leak?
A roofer, through the roof line, to stop the water. If the ceiling or walls are wet, the water damage line sends a company to dry them so mold does not start.
Do I call an electrician or the utility when the power is out?
If neighbors are out too, the utility. If only your house or part of it is out, check the main breaker, then call an electrician. A downed line is always the utility.
Is it free to call?
Yes. The company that answers pays Home Repair Dispatch for the referral. You pay only for work you agree to.
Who answers the call?
An independent company, or its call center, that serves your area and takes that kind of job.
Who do I call if my solar installer went out of business?
If you lease, the servicer on your statement. If you own, the solar repair line for faults, the roof line for roof work, or the new equipment line for batteries and panels.
Can I call about an insurance claim?
Call your insurer first. The roof line is not for insurance-funded work, because Florida bars referral payments on it. For water damage, the company can start drying while you file, but do not sign over your claim.
Still not sure? Call the line closest to the problem and describe what you see; the company will tell you if it belongs to another trade.
