SunPower Bankruptcy: Warranty, Service, Who to Call (2026)
SunPower Corporation filed Chapter 11 on August 5, 2024.
Maxeon honors SunPower-branded panel warranties, Enphase honors the microinverters, SunStrong services leases energized on or before September 30, 2024, and SunPower Inc. (the buyer of the brand) services only its own Blue Raven and Complete Solar installs. Cash and loan systems have no servicer.
The SunPower bankruptcy is the August 5, 2024 Chapter 11 filing of SunPower Corporation, after which the brand was sold to Complete Solaria (now SunPower Inc.), legacy leases went to SunStrong Management, SunPower-branded panels stayed warranted by Maxeon, and the mySunPower app became SunStrong Connect.
What happened to SunPower
SunPower Corporation filed Chapter 11 in Delaware on August 5, 2024 and Nasdaq delisted it August 16, 2024. Complete Solaria bought Blue Raven Solar, the New Homes division, the non-installing dealer network and the SunPower brand for $45 million; the sale closed September 30, 2024, which became the warranty cutoff date. Complete Solaria rebranded as SunPower on April 21, 2025 and became SunPower Inc. in October 2025. Legacy leases and PPAs went to SunStrong Management, SunPower-branded panels are warranted by Maxeon, and the mySunPower app became SunStrong Connect with paid premium tiers from April 15, 2025.

Is it an emergency? Signs a SunPower system needs help today
A SunPower system with no installer behind it is an emergency only if it shows fire or electrical damage; a system that has simply stopped producing can wait for a normal service visit, and the 5 signs below sort one from the other.
- Smoke, flames, sparks, arcing or a burning smell at the panels, inverter, battery or wiring: get everyone away from it and call 911. Tell the operator the house has rooftop solar and show firefighters where the AC disconnect is, as Hawaiian Electric advises. Do not touch the equipment, and do not throw water on a burning battery.
- Panels cracked, torn loose or hanging after a storm, or wires exposed: stay off the roof and do not touch them. Hawaiian Electric says to assume solar panels are energized. If you can reach the AC disconnect or the system shutdown switch without going near the damage, turn it off. Tesla's inverter manual says turning off the AC disconnect starts rapid shutdown, which brings a Tesla array to safe voltage levels within 30 seconds.
- Water coming through the ceiling under the array: urgent within days, because a leak at a mount keeps getting worse. That is roof work; see roof leak under solar panels.
- The system shows zero but nothing is damaged: not an emergency. The house still has grid power; the cost is lost production every sunny day, so check the breaker and the inverter light, then call the repair line.
- A leased SunPower system: report it to SunStrong before hiring anyone; the lease makes the repair theirs.

Who services SunPower systems now
Leased/PPA systems energized on or before September 30, 2024: SunStrong Management. Owned (cash/loan) legacy systems: nobody; SunStrong refuses them and SunPower Inc. did not assume liabilities. Blue Raven/Complete Solar installs after September 30, 2024: SunPower Inc.
Is my SunPower warranty still valid
Equipment: Maxeon honors SunPower-branded panel warranties; Enphase, Fronius, Fimer, Qcells, REC and Waaree honor their components. Workmanship: SunPower Inc. assumed no liability for systems energized on or before September 30, 2024 and the official page leaves those sections blank; legacy dealer workmanship warranties survive only if the dealer still operates.
Maxeon's coverage for legacy SunPower-branded panels applies to systems installed before August 5, 2024 that were registered by December 31, 2024, and claims go through an installer rather than directly from the homeowner. If your dealer is gone, ask the contractor you hire whether it is a Maxeon partner able to file the claim.
SunPower monitoring: mySunPower became SunStrong Connect
mySunPower replaced by SunStrong Connect (SunStrong owns and supports the app). Free: alerts, live monitoring, SunVault, WiFi, firmware. Premium ($9.99/month or $99.99/year from April 15, 2025; free for lease customers): historical data, panel-level view, analytics, monthly reports. Cellular gateways unsupported since April 15, 2025; web portal discontinued.

What to do next
- Identify your equipment: Maxeon panels, Enphase or Fronius inverters, SunVault battery.
- Register with Maxeon (maxeon.com/us/sunpower-warranty) and Enphase ([email protected]).
- Find your original dealer; if it is gone, hire a local contractor that services SunPower systems.
- Install SunStrong Connect, switch the gateway off cellular, and decide whether the $9.99/month premium tier is worth it.
- Keep paying your loan; consider Enphase Care ($399/year) if you have Enphase microinverters.
- Log in at sunstrong.youronlineaccount.com or call (833) 514-1858.
- Keep paying the lease exactly as before.
- Report production shortfalls in writing to SunStrong; the lease guarantee is its obligation.
- Use SunStrong Connect premium features free as a lease customer.
- Keep your lease, SunPower statements and SunStrong notices together.
Roof replacement with a SunPower system
Leased and PPA systems are serviced by SunStrong Management. The legacy SunPower lease terms required at least 15 days' notice before roof work and put removal and reinstall costs on the homeowner. SunStrong has not published its own roof process or fees as of October 10, 2026, so put the request in writing through the SunStrong customer portal and confirm the notice period and cost before booking the roofer. In 2025 Arizona station AZFamily reported on a SunPower lease customer whose panels came off for a roof repair just before the bankruptcy and stayed off for nine months while lease payments continued; SunStrong reconnected the system within days of the coverage and said it was working through backed-up repair orders.
Owned SunPower systems need no approval. Any licensed solar contractor can do the detach and reset; many SunPower systems use Enphase-made microinverters, so ask whether the crew recommissions Enphase systems. The removal and reinstall page has the costs.
Own the system and reroofing? Call the roof line with your panel count and roof type. Not for insurance or storm claims.
SunPower complaints and lawsuits
- The BBB rates SunPower Corporation D- and notes a failure to respond to 158 complaints; reviews average 1.21 out of 5 across 120 reviews (checked October 10, 2026).
- Investors who bought SunPower securities between May 3, 2023 and July 19, 2024 are covered by an $11 million settlement paid by three former executives, approved in August 2026 (N.D. Cal., No. 3:23-cv-05544).
- California's Contractors State License Board filed an accusation against SunPower Corporate Systems in March 2024 after a homeowner's roof damage claim; the outcome was not found.
- No homeowner class action against SunPower was found from 2024 to 2026. Owners with claims filed them in the Delaware bankruptcy (Case No. 24-11649).
Complete Solaria and SunPower: who is who
Complete Solaria bought the SunPower brand, Blue Raven Solar and the dealer network out of bankruptcy in 2024 and now operates as SunPower Inc. It services only systems its own businesses installed after the sale. Legacy SunPower leases and PPAs went to SunStrong Management, and SunPower-branded panels are warranted by Maxeon. So a homeowner with an older SunPower system calls SunStrong (lease), Maxeon (panel warranty) or an independent contractor (repairs on an owned system), not the new SunPower.
