PosiGen Bankruptcy: Who Services Your Lease Now (2026)

PosiGen ceased most operations on August 26, 2025 and filed Chapter 11 in late November 2025.

Its roughly 40,000 leases in 15 states were sold: most to Renewbrook Energy, serviced by Omnidian, and the rest to SunStrong Management in February 2026. Keep paying as before until the new servicer writes to you; the lease still obligates it to repair the system.

Definition

The PosiGen bankruptcy is the late November 2025 Chapter 11 filing of PosiGen, a New Orleans solar lease provider serving about 40,000 lower-income households, after lender Brookfield froze its cash on August 26, 2025; its lease portfolio was split between Renewbrook Energy and SunStrong Management.

What happened to PosiGen

New Orleans-based lease installer PosiGen, which served about 40,000 residential customers in 15 states, ceased most operations on August 26, 2025 after lender Brookfield froze cash and issued a notice of default on a fully drawn $600 million credit facility; 166 Louisiana employees were laid off that week. It filed Chapter 11 in the Southern District of Texas in late November 2025. During the case Renewbrook Energy, a new Brookfield subsidiary, acquired most of the residential portfolio (with Omnidian contracted for maintenance and monitoring) and SunStrong Management took the remaining projects, as reported February 24, 2026.

Is it an emergency? Signs a PosiGen system needs help today

A PosiGen system with no installer behind it is an emergency only if it shows fire or electrical damage; a system that has simply stopped producing can wait for a normal service visit, and the 5 signs below sort one from the other.

  • Smoke, flames, sparks, arcing or a burning smell at the panels, inverter, battery or wiring: get everyone away from it and call 911. Tell the operator the house has rooftop solar and show firefighters where the AC disconnect is, as Hawaiian Electric advises. Do not touch the equipment, and do not throw water on a burning battery.
  • Panels cracked, torn loose or hanging after a storm, or wires exposed: stay off the roof and do not touch them. Hawaiian Electric says to assume solar panels are energized. If you can reach the AC disconnect or the system shutdown switch without going near the damage, turn it off. Tesla's inverter manual says turning off the AC disconnect starts rapid shutdown, which brings a Tesla array to safe voltage levels within 30 seconds.
  • Water coming through the ceiling under the array: urgent within days, because a leak at a mount keeps getting worse. That is roof work; see roof leak under solar panels.
  • The system shows zero but nothing is damaged: not an emergency. The house still has grid power; the cost is lost production every sunny day, so check the breaker and the inverter light, then call the repair line.
  • A leased PosiGen system: repairs are the new servicer's job under the lease, so report the problem to Renewbrook or SunStrong before hiring anyone.

Published contacts as of the check date. Hours are not published by most successors.

Who services the systems now

Leased (almost all PosiGen customers): Renewbrook via Omnidian for most, SunStrong for the rest. Owned: no successor.

Is the warranty still valid

Lease service obligations transferred with the portfolios. SunStrong says financing terms are unchanged except previously expected escalators and sales tax. Systems not yet operational were subject to bankruptcy decisions.

Monitoring

PosiGen app status not confirmed; Omnidian monitors Renewbrook systems. Manufacturer apps continue.
