Water Heater Repair Las Vegas: $228 to $1,017 + $225 Rebate

Do this now: water heater trouble in Las Vegas

1. Smell gas near the heater? Leave, and call Southwest Gas or 911 from outside.
2. Water around the tank: close the cold water valve on top, then set the gas control to off or pilot, or switch off the breaker for an electric unit.
3. Can't stop the leak? Close the main. LVVWD says it is usually in the front yard near the sewer riser cap, in the garage or in the manifold.
4. Do not drain a hot tank. CPSC says 150 F water can give most adults third-degree burns in about two seconds.
5. Read the brand, age and size from the label, then call the plumber line.

Is it urgent? When a Las Vegas water heater cannot wait

A water heater is urgent when the tank is leaking, the relief valve keeps letting go, or there is a gas smell. HomeGuide says a tank leaking from the bottom usually needs replacing, at $600 to $1,800. No hot water with no leak can usually wait for daytime rates. The water heater repair guide matches each symptom to its part.

Las Vegas hard water and the tank

Las Vegas water is very hard: the Las Vegas Valley Water District gives 16 to 17 grains per gallon, or 280 to 291 parts per million, in its FAQs. LVVWD says the chalky buildup and spots are aesthetic, not a health issue. In a tank heater, minerals settle as sediment; HomeGuide lists rumbling or popping as the sign and prices a flush at $75 to $250. Ask the plumber to flush the tank on any service visit, and see whether the anode rod is worn ($150 to $350, HomeGuide).

Water heater replacement and installation in Las Vegas

Water heater replacement in Las Vegas costs $882 to $1,826 for most homes, HomeAdvisor's 2026 national range, with an average of $1,348; a tankless installation runs $1,400 to $3,900. Inside the City of Las Vegas, a same-for-same water heater, including tankless, is on the list of permits issued online without plans, so a like-for-like swap is quick to permit. The City says work not on that list needs plans, so a change of type can take longer. Nevada licenses this work under C-1h, which covers "the installation, replacement and repair of water heaters," and C-1d plumbing. Compare water heater replacement cost and tankless water heater installation.

The median Las Vegas home was built in 1994, the Census Bureau's 2020 to 2024 American Community Survey shows. HomeAdvisor says tank heaters last 10 to 15 years, so the heater in most homes is not the original; check the date on the label.
