National figures. The door style, whether the panel is still made, and how many panels are damaged set the price.

Do this now: after a panel is hit or bent

A bent panel can bind the tracks and pull on the springs, so check the door before you run it again.

  1. Do not run the opener yet. A panel pushed out of line can jam in the track and strip the opener gear or kink a cable.
  2. Look at the springs and cables from the floor. Do not touch a snapped spring or a loose cable. DASMA, the door makers' association, says springs under tension cause injury when they break and that cables "should be replaced only by a trained technician"; HomeGuide says DIY spring work "can result in serious injury or death."
  3. Photograph the damage. If a car hit the door, the driver's auto policy or your homeowners policy may apply: Maryland's insurance regulator lists vehicle damage as a named peril on standard home policies. Call the insurer before signing anything.
  4. Find the door label on the inside edge or back of a panel: brand, model and color code. Matching a panel depends on it.
  5. Call the garage door line and say which panel (top, middle, bottom), the door width and the brand.

Is it urgent? A door that still runs versus one that binds

A cosmetic dent can wait, but a bent panel that binds in the track belongs on a same-week list, and Fixr's $100 to $300 emergency surcharge is rarely worth paying for a panel.

  • Stop using the door: it jerks, sticks or sits crooked in the opening after the hit, or a cable went slack.
  • This week: the panel is bent but the door runs smoothly; wind and rain get through a split seam.
  • Whenever: a dent you can live with. HomeGuide and Angi price dent repair at $100 to $300.
  • A door that will not close at all: garage door won't close.
Definition

Garage door panel replacement is swapping one or more sections of a sectional door for matching new sections while the tracks, springs and opener stay. HomeGuide puts it at $300 to $900 per panel installed.

Garage door panel replacement cost: per panel, by door style

Replacing a garage door panel costs $300 to $900 per panel installed in HomeGuide's guide, with the panel itself $150 to $400 and labor $150 to $500; HomeAdvisor's 2026 range is $250 to $1,000 and Fixr's $150 to $1,000.

Door styleHomeGuide, per panel installed (Jun 2025)
Sectional (most homes)$300 to $900
Side-sliding$300 to $1,000+
Glass$400 to $1,000+
Tilt-up (one large panel)$400 to $1,000+
French style (one large panel)$500 to $1,200+

HomeGuide gives no separate figures by material; Angi puts a single metal panel at about $400 and wood repairs over $1,000 when major.

Angi's repair guide adds the material angle: fiberglass repairs $100 to $200, metal $150 to $350 (about $400 to replace one panel), wood $200 to $300 and over $1,000 for major repairs. HomeServe's worked example lands at about $860 to disassemble the door, replace a $300 to $900 panel and reassemble it.

Can you replace just one garage door panel?

Yes, if the manufacturer still makes that panel: HomeGuide says matching a discontinued panel can be difficult and may mean replacing more panels or the whole door, which it prices at $700 to $3,500.

  • The label decides. Brand, model and color code let the company order an exact match. Without it, expect a visit to measure and identify the door first.
  • Color fades. A new panel on a 15-year-old door will not match the sun-faded ones; HomeGuide prices painting the door at $100 to $500.
  • Bottom panels take the hits. They also carry the bottom seal and the cable brackets. DASMA says brackets are adjusted or loosened only by a trained door systems technician because of the spring tension.
  • Top panels carry the opener arm. A bent top panel often means a bent arm bracket too.

Repair the panel or replace the door?

Replacement usually wins once several panels are damaged or problems recur, HomeGuide says, because two panels at $300 to $900 each approach the $700 to $2,700 HomeGuide lists for a new single door installed.

  • Repair one bent or dented panel on a door under about 10 years old with a panel still in production.
  • Replace when two or more panels are gone, the panel is discontinued, or the springs and rollers are near the end of their life anyway (springs last 10,000 to 20,000 cycles, about 7 to 14 years, HomeGuide).
  • Insulated upgrade: a new door is the moment to add insulation; sizes and R-values are on garage door installation.

Garage door roller replacement cost

Replacing garage door rollers costs $150 to $250 with parts and labor in Angi's October 2026 guide, average $200, and Fixr lists $100 to $150; the rollers themselves are $3 to $6 each, nylon $10 to $20 and steel $15 to $30 per set of materials.

  • How many: a standard residential door has 10 to 12 rollers (Angi).
  • Lifespan: 10 to 20 years with maintenance, six to 10 with heavy use (Angi).
  • Signs: cracking, chipping, bending, rattling, squeaking, grinding and choppy travel (Angi).
  • Why it is done with panel work: the door is already off the tracks, so labor overlaps. Ask for the roller price as a line item.
  • The bottom rollers are different. The bottom bracket is under spring tension through the cable; Angi says cable work is not an acceptable DIY project. Leave the bottom section to the technician.

Questions to ask before you approve a panel order

  • Is the panel still made, and is the color an exact match?
  • Price per panel, labor, and the roller or hinge parts separately.
  • Lead time for a special-order panel, and whether the door is safe to use meanwhile.
  • Will you test the auto-reverse afterward? The CPSC's 2x4 test; HomeGuide says to ask for it after any repair.
  • License and address. Massachusetts consumer regulators list the warning signs of a garage door scam: a name that resembles a known local business, no verifiable address, unmarked vans, an estimate far above industry prices and money up front. Get the price in writing before work starts, and never pay in advance.

Have the label and the panel count? Call the garage door line and ask for a per-panel price with labor separated.
