Solar Panel Repair Houston: $100 to $500 Visit + Sunnova

Solar panel repair in Houston costs about $238 to $1,487, Angi's 2026 national range; Angi publishes no Houston figure.

Typical price range$238 to $1,487

An owned system needs a TDLR-licensed electrical contractor, usually after a diagnostic visit of $100 to $300 (GreenLancer, 2026); a leased system is repaired by its servicer. Houston was Sunnova's headquarters; its systems are now serviced by SunStrong. CenterPoint handles interconnection, but your retail electric provider sets what exported solar earns. Houston adopted SolarAPP+ in July 2024, except in windborne-debris zones, and a city solar permit costs $91.06 plus a $33.56 admin fee. Hurricane Beryl knocked out power to 2.26 million CenterPoint customers in 2024, the biggest outage in its history.

Who services solar in Houston when the installer is gone

In Houston, the contractor for an owned system is a TDLR-licensed electrical contractor; the call lines on this page reach companies that take over systems whose installer closed. Sunnova, based in Houston, filed Chapter 11 on June 8, 2025 after laying off 718 employees; its leases, PPAs and loans are now serviced by SunStrong Management. In April 2026 KPRC reported on a Katy homeowner whose installer, Elios Solar, vanished before ever sending a bill. Freedom Forever, which the Texas Attorney General was investigating, filed bankruptcy in April 2026. Freedom Forever customers with an unfulfilled deposit or warranty claim have until October 16, 2026 to file a proof of claim in its Chapter 7 case; the claim deadline page has the steps. For owned systems, the installer must be a TDLR-licensed electrical contractor.

CenterPoint and your retail provider: what changes when you repair, reinstall or add a battery

CenterPoint is the wires utility: the installer applies through CenterPoint's portal, and CenterPoint grants permission to operate and reprograms the meter to record exports. What you are paid for exports is set by your retail electric provider, and buyback plans vary from credit at the energy rate to wholesale prices. New owners of a home with solar must email [email protected] and finish an application before turning the system on. CenterPoint does not say whether a removal and reinstall or a battery needs a new application, so the contractor should ask. Houston-area Powerwalls were among the first virtual power plants qualified in ERCOT's pilot in 2023.

Permits in Houston for solar repair, reinstall and batteries

The Houston Permitting Center issues the solar panel permit (plan review and inspection, $91.06 plus a $33.56 admin fee) to licensed contractors registered with the city through iPermits. SolarAPP+ has been accepted since July 15, 2024, but projects in windborne-debris regions (design wind speed of 140 mph or more) go through traditional review. The city's pages do not separately address battery or reroof permits; ask the contractor which permits the job needs.

Houston storms and your solar system

Hurricane Beryl came ashore July 8, 2024 and gusted to 84 mph at Hobby Airport and 89 mph at the University of Houston; it left 2.26 million CenterPoint customers without power. The May 16, 2024 derecho brought gusts of roughly 70 to 90 mph, and Harvey in 2017 flooded nearly 136,000 structures in Harris County. Texas led the country with 878 hail events in 2024. Grid-tied solar shuts off in an outage without a battery. Storm damage is an insurance matter; hire the contractor directly.

Where to complain or recover money in Houston

The Harris County Attorney's Office runs a consumer protection program (Stay Scam Free) that takes complaints about businesses operating in the county, alongside the state routes below. Texas began regulating residential solar sales on September 1, 2025 (SB 1036). Contracts signed since then must name the licensed electrical contractor doing the install and who gets the permits and utility approval, and give a 5-business-day right to cancel; retailers had to register with TDLR from September 1, 2026. TDLR takes complaints about retailers for contracts signed on or after September 1, 2025, and about electricians' solar work at any date. Older sales contracts go to the Texas Attorney General, which in April 2026 sent civil investigative demands to Freedom Forever, Sunrun, Lone Star Solar Services and CAM Solar.

Roofers, electricians and water damage repair in Houston

The same call lines serve Houston houses with or without solar. Roof: Texas does not appear to have a statewide roofing license (one third-party licensing guide says local rules apply), so check the roofer's local registration, insurance and reviews. Texas law bars a contractor from waiving or rebating your insurance deductible, and a roofer may not act as your public adjuster on a job it is doing. Nationally, Angi puts the average roof repair at $1,174, with most homeowners paying $395 to $1,968; the roof repair guide breaks it down by job. After a hurricane or a long outage, the questions shift to emergency roof repair, drying the house and a standby generator. In Texas, mold remediators must hold a TDLR license, and one person may not both assess and remediate the same job.

Electrical: In Texas, work that needs a new or upgraded circuit must be done by a TDLR-licensed electrical contractor with a designated master electrician. The electrical repair guide has hourly rates and common repair prices, and breaker keeps tripping covers the most common call.

Water damage: the EPA says wet materials dried within 24 to 48 hours usually do not grow mold, so call quickly, photograph everything and call your insurer as well. The water damage guide covers the first 48 hours.
