Pressure washing cost for a house
In HomeAdvisor's table, the number of stories moves the price most: $150 to $750 for one story and $700 to $1,800 for three. Fixr says higher stories add risk for workers and often a premium. Angi lists per-foot rates by siding type:
| Siding | Angi (per sq ft) |
|---|---|
| Vinyl | $0.20 to $0.50 |
| Wood | $0.30 to $0.55 |
| Brick | $0.10 to $0.40 |
| Stucco | $0.30 to $0.50 |
Angi, August 2026. Fixr's whole-house rates are $0.25 to $0.35 per square foot for soft washing and $0.30 to $0.80 for pressure washing (January 2025).
If washing shows cracked stucco, soft wood or loose siding, consider getting it repaired before it is washed again. See siding repair and stucco repair.
Driveway pressure washing cost
HomeAdvisor and Angi both put the average driveway at $100 to $250, or $0.20 to $0.40 per square foot of concrete. Fixr's range is $180 to $240.
Deck and fence pressure washing cost
A deck or patio runs $100 to $200 in all three guides. Fences run $150 to $300 per HomeAdvisor and Angi, $125 to $235 per Fixr. Fixr warns that the wrong pressure or nozzle can damage siding, so ask what pressure and nozzle the crew uses on each surface.
Soft wash vs pressure wash
Soft washing uses a cleaning solution at low pressure. It is the method for surfaces high pressure can damage. For a whole house, Fixr's ranges overlap ($375 to $525 for soft washing against $300 to $600 for pressure washing), and HomeAdvisor lists soft washing at $250 to $1,000. Fixr says most roofs should not be pressure washed; the roof cleaning page explains why shingle makers say no, and solar panel cleaning covers what panel makers allow. Gutters are often washed on the same visit; if they leak or sag, see gutter repair.
DIY pressure washing: cost and injury risk
Renting a pressure washer costs $35 to $175 a day per HomeAdvisor, or $50 to $100 a day at most big-box stores per Fixr. Buying one runs $100 to $1,000 (HomeAdvisor). Angi says a DIY job can take six to eight hours.
The risk is real. Consumer Reports, citing the Consumer Product Safety Commission, reported an estimated 6,057 emergency room visits for pressure washer injuries in 2014, and 14% of those patients were hospitalized. Lacerations were most common, followed by bruises, punctures and eye injuries, and Consumer Reports warned that even a small skin break can let fluid reach deep tissue and cause infection.
- Do not use the zero-degree (red) nozzle. Consumer Reports says to avoid it.
- Wear goggles, long pants and sturdy shoes, not flip-flops (Consumer Reports).
- Use an extension wand for high spots instead of a ladder. The CDC says more than 500,000 people a year in the US are treated for ladder-related injuries.
- Keep the spray off outlets, light fixtures and the electric meter. If water gets into an outlet or fixture, shut that circuit off at the breaker only if you can reach the panel from a dry spot, and call an electrician; see electrical repair.

Pressure washing near me: what to ask before you book
- Flat price or per square foot, and what is the minimum? Ask for the price of each surface on one quote.
- Pressure or soft wash for each surface? Fixr says most roofs should not be pressure washed, and ARMA says high pressure should not be used on asphalt roofing.
- Chemicals and plants. Ask what detergent or pretreatment the crew uses and how it protects plants and pets.
- Water. Ask whether the crew uses your outdoor spigot.
- Ladders and second stories. Ask how the crew reaches upper floors and whether that changes the price.
