Solar Panel Repair Tampa: $100 to $500 Visit + TECO (2026)

Solar panel repair in Tampa costs about $238 to $1,487, Angi's 2026 national range; Angi publishes no Tampa figure.

Typical price range$238 to $1,487

An owned system needs a Florida-licensed solar (CVC) or electrical (EC) contractor, usually after a diagnostic visit of $100 to $300 (GreenLancer, 2026); a leased system is repaired by its servicer. Tampa Electric had 29,026 customer-owned renewable systems, nearly all solar, 345 MW, at the end of 2024. Hurricane Milton cut power to about 70% of TECO's customers in October 2024. WFLA reported in January 2026 that Sarasota's Solar Direct had shut down, and Freedom Forever's bankruptcy left Hillsborough panels installed but never turned on. City of Tampa residential solar trade permits are auto-issued once the application and fee are in.

Who services solar in Tampa when the installer is gone

In Tampa, the contractor for an owned system is a Florida-licensed solar (CVC) or electrical (EC) contractor; the call lines on this page reach companies that take over systems whose installer closed. WFLA reported in January 2026 that Solar Direct, a Sarasota company in business for decades, abruptly shut down, leaving Tampa and Palmetto customers with unfinished installs and unserviced systems. In June 2026 it reported on a Hillsborough County homeowner whose panels sat installed but not activated after Freedom Forever's bankruptcy, because his inspection failed when no company representative showed up. The Florida Attorney General sued MC Solar, whose Tampa office customers found locked, and SetUp My Solar in Pasco County. Freedom Forever customers with an unfulfilled deposit or warranty claim have until October 16, 2026 to file a proof of claim in its Chapter 7 case; the claim deadline page has the steps. For an owned system, hire a Florida-licensed solar (CVC) or electrical (EC) contractor.

Tampa Electric: what changes when you repair, reinstall or add a battery

Tampa Electric (TECO) credits solar under the same Florida rule as FPL, and reported 29,026 customer-owned renewable systems, nearly all solar, totaling 345.4 MW DC as of December 31, 2024. Its net metering application does not address batteries, modifications or reinstalls, so contact TECO before panels come off. Duke Energy Florida, which serves parts of Pinellas and Pasco, reviewed and field-inspected 881 larger (over 10 kW) solar-plus-battery applications in 2025, including batteries added to existing systems, and charged an application fee for each. No TECO battery incentive was found.

Permits in Tampa and Hillsborough County

The City of Tampa issues residential solar as an electrical trade permit through Accela Citizen Access, and residential trade permits are auto-issued once the application and fee are paid. In unincorporated Hillsborough County, roof-mounted solar needs an electrical trade permit with signed and sealed plans, engineering that the roof can carry the load, and Florida Building Code wind-load compliance; wind-borne debris regions and flood zones get extra review, and a recorded Notice of Commencement is due before the first inspection.

Tampa hurricanes and your solar system

Hurricane Milton came ashore at Siesta Key on October 9, 2024 as a Category 3; Tampa International gusted to 91 mph, St. Petersburg logged 18.54 inches of rain in a day, and about 75% of Hillsborough accounts were without power the next morning. Grid-tied solar stays off in an outage without a battery. After a storm, check the app and the array from the ground, and have penetrations inspected if a leak appears. Storm damage is an insurance matter; under Florida law, hire the contractor directly.

Where to complain or recover money in Tampa

Hillsborough County Consumer Protection Services takes complaints against businesses operating in the county and publishes a searchable complaint record, alongside the state routes below. Florida's 2025 law (HB 683) lets a contractor use a private provider for plan review; for a solar permit on a single-family or two-family home filed that way, the building official has 5 business days to respond or the permit is deemed approved. Permits the county or city reviews itself follow longer deadlines. A licensed solar contractor (CVC) or electrical contractor (EC) does the work; check the license at myfloridalicense.com. Florida Statute 489.147 bars contractors at all times from offering anything of value for a roof inspection or insurance claim, and from paying or taking referral fees on any work paid by property insurance. A roof contract signed within 180 days of a declared emergency, for property in the declared area, can be canceled within 10 days. For that reason the roof and solar call lines on this site are not for insurance claims. Complaints about a licensed contractor go to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (myfloridalicense.com); fraud and sales complaints go to the Florida Attorney General (myfloridalegal.com).

Roofers, electricians and water damage repair in Tampa

The same call lines serve Tampa houses with or without solar. Roof: A Florida roofer needs a Certified Roofing Contractor license (CCC, valid statewide) or a Registered Roofing Contractor license (RC, valid only where it was issued); a general or residential contractor must subcontract the roof unless it also holds a roofing license. Look it up at myfloridalicense.com. Nationally, Angi puts the average roof repair at $1,174, with most homeowners paying $395 to $1,968; the roof repair guide breaks it down by job. For insurance, Citizens requires a four-point inspection on homes more than 20 years old, and a wind mitigation report, $75 to $150 per Kin Insurance, stays valid for up to five years; see roof inspection.

Electrical: Electrical work in Florida needs a certified (EC, statewide) or registered (ER, local) electrical contractor. The electrical repair guide has hourly rates and common repair prices, and breaker keeps tripping covers the most common call.

Water damage: the EPA says wet materials dried within 24 to 48 hours usually do not grow mold, so call quickly, photograph everything and call your insurer as well. Florida bans assignment of benefits on policies issued on or after January 1, 2023, so do not sign over a claim to the drying company. The water damage guide covers the first 48 hours.
