Solar Panel Repair Los Angeles: $100 to $500 Visit + LADWP
Solar panel repair in Los Angeles costs $250 to $1,900 in Angi's 2026 range for Los Angeles, against $238 to $1,487 nationally.
An owned system needs a California-licensed solar (C-46) or electrical (C-10) contractor, usually after a diagnostic visit of $100 to $300 (GreenLancer, 2026); a leased system is repaired by its servicer. In the City of Los Angeles, solar runs on LADWP; most of the surrounding county is SCE, and the rules differ. LADBS issues solar and battery permits online and instantly for homes up to 38.4 kW, and has issued more than 56,000 since 2014. SunPower, Sunnova and Freedom Forever all left Southern California customers without an installer, and a Southern California installer publishes removal and reinstall at $350 to $600 per panel.

Who services solar in Los Angeles when the installer is gone
In Los Angeles, the contractor for an owned system is a California-licensed solar (C-46) or electrical (C-10) contractor; the call lines on this page reach companies that take over systems whose installer closed. Leased and PPA systems from Sunnova and legacy SunPower are serviced by SunStrong Management; owned systems need an independent licensed contractor (C-10 or C-46). Local closures go back years: CBS Los Angeles reported in 2023 on an 83-year-old Compton homeowner left with a $32,000 system that did not work after the local installer Harness Power closed, and on PetersenDean's 2020 bankruptcy. Freedom Forever, founded in California, filed Chapter 11 in April 2026 and is now in Chapter 7. Freedom Forever customers with an unfulfilled deposit or warranty claim have until October 16, 2026 to file a proof of claim in its Chapter 7 case; the claim deadline page has the steps.

LADWP and SCE: what changes when you repair, reinstall or add a battery
LADWP (City of Los Angeles) runs its own net metering: excess solar becomes a bill credit that carries forward, and any credit left when you close the account is lost. A battery over 10 kW needs an interconnection agreement, every system must pass an LADBS permit inspection and an LADWP solar inspection before it runs, and the net meter belongs to LADWP and cannot be moved. LADWP's guidelines do not address removal and reinstall, so ask LADWP before the roofer starts.
SCE (most of LA County outside the city): If you are on NEM 1.0 or 2.0, you keep it for 20 years from the date the system was first interconnected, even after you buy a house that already has solar. Changes can cost you that status: SCE allows an expansion of no more than the greater of 1 kW or 10% of the original system and still keeps you on NEM, and the same limit applies when you add a battery. A revised application is still required. Like-for-like equipment replacement needs only a notice (SCE Form 14-987). Anything bigger moves the account to the Solar Billing Plan. Ask before a repowering or a battery adds capacity.
Permits in Los Angeles for solar repair, reinstall and batteries
The Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety's online solar module (ePermit-Solar through PermitLA) issues approved plans and a permit immediately, with no plan review, for one- and two-family homes up to 38.4 kW including battery storage. LADBS inspectors check fire requirements on behalf of LAFD. We found no published LADBS rule for reinstalling solar after a reroof; the contractor pulls the permit for the reinstall and the system passes inspection again before it runs.
Los Angeles climate and your solar system
Wildfire season brings power shutoffs: during the January 2025 Palisades and Eaton fires, SCE cut power to 166,737 customers as a safety measure, and about 92,000 LADWP customers lost power at one point. Grid-tied solar without a battery shuts off during outages. A Colorado State University study found wildfire smoke causes only a modest drop in solar output outside active fire zones; ash on the panels is worth rinsing from the ground.
Where to complain or recover money in Los Angeles
File with the Contractors State License Board, which has a dedicated solar complaint form. California also funded a $5 million Solar Energy System Restitution Program in 2021 for single-family homeowners who contracted for solar on or after January 1, 2016 and lost money to a contractor; it pays only while the appropriation lasts, so check with CSLB whether funds remain ([email protected]).

Roofers, electricians and water damage repair in Los Angeles
The same call lines serve Los Angeles houses with or without solar. Roof: A California roofer needs a CSLB C-39 Roofing license for any job of $1,000 or more, or any job that needs a permit. Nationally, Angi puts the average roof repair at $1,174, with most homeowners paying $395 to $1,968; the roof repair guide breaks it down by job. For a flat or low-slope roof, flat roof repair and roof coating cover the options and prices.
Electrical: Electrical work in California needs a CSLB C-10 electrical contractor. The electrical repair guide has hourly rates and common repair prices, and breaker keeps tripping covers the most common call.
Water damage: the EPA says wet materials dried within 24 to 48 hours usually do not grow mold, so call quickly, photograph everything and call your insurer as well. The water damage guide covers the first 48 hours.

Questions people ask
Who fixes solar panels in Los Angeles if the installer went out of business?
A California-licensed solar (C-46) or electrical (C-10) contractor for owned systems; SunStrong for Sunnova and legacy SunPower leases. Call the repair line on this page.
Do I need a permit to reinstall solar panels in Los Angeles?
Expect one. LADBS issues residential solar permits online, and the system passes an LADBS inspection and an LADWP inspection (in the city) before it runs again.
Will adding a battery change my net metering in Los Angeles?
For SCE customers, a battery counts toward the 1 kW or 10% expansion limit for keeping NEM 1.0 or 2.0. For LADWP, a battery over 10 kW needs an interconnection agreement; ask LADWP before installing.
How much does solar panel removal and reinstall in Los Angeles cost?
$350 to $600 per panel in a Southern California installer's published range, about $7,000 to $12,000 for 20 panels, against $200 to $300 per panel nationally.
